Smoke/CO Detectors
In 2023 Illinois passed the new FIRE SAFETY (425 ILCS 60/) Smoke Detector Act. In essence, the act requires homeowners to install smoke detectors in every bedroom of their home, "with a long term, non removable battery". A smoke detector shall be installed in every common area of each level of a home. The detectors shall be replaced if they are older than 10 years from the date of their being manufactured, fail to respond to operability tests or otherwise malfunction.
